Children and youth are the future church. Special needs adults are precious to the Lord. Each of their spiritual and physical safety are of utmost importance in our programming. We take this issue seriously, first, for the protection of those who need it and for the protection of the church ministry. These policies also protect our volunteers. This is serious to the Lord, therefore, it is serious to us.
Read our Protection Policies Handbook
"But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me—it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.” Mark 9:42 HCSB
It is our policy to screen volunteers who work with children, youth and special needs adults. Screening includes 3 key factors and corresponding documents that need to be read and completed:
1. Who are you? Our pastors, ministry directors and other church leaders want to meet and talk with you about your gifts and the areas you are interested in serving. We desire to get to know you better and help you find your God potential here at Wayside. Find out more about spiritual gifts.
Print and sign our Volunteer Release.
2. Who knows you? We ask for personal references and want our volunteers who serve in these areas to be regularly involved in spiritual growth activities like Bible Fellowship Groups and Worship Services.
Print and fill out our Confidential Volunteer Questionaire.
3. What is your background? As a standard, Wayside runs identity verification, criminal record search and national sex offender registry background checks on those who work directly with children, youth and special needs adults.
Print, sign and notarize the Affidavit of Good Moral Character. We have personnel in our church offices who can do this for you if you do not have access to a notary public.
Print and sign Permission for Background Screening.
When you complete these documents please return them to your lead ministry director.

The completed documents can be left in the church office from 9am-5pm weekdays in the ministry directors mailbox
