A Declaration of Your Faith
When a person asks Jesus to be his or her Lord, baptism is one of the first ways you can publicly declare your faith in Him. At Wayside, we baptize during our worship services and even at the beach, so that others can see this testimony of your life and love for Jesus. God does not call “secret service” Christians to keep their faith hidden. He calls men and women, boys and girls to share their Good News with others (read Matthew 10:32-33).
A Beautiful Picture
Baptism shows what Jesus did for us — He died for our sins, was buried, and came back to life (read 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Baptism shows what happened to you — You died to an old way of life and have been raised to live a new life in Jesus (read Romans 6:3-4).
An Act of Obedience
Jesus set our example for baptism by being baptized Himself (read Matthew 3:13-17). He did so to be obedient to His Father and to signify the start of His earthly ministry.
Baptism is not a suggestion or an option for His followers. We get to show our obedience to God, our love for Jesus Christ, and our desire to be used by Him to do great things on earth.
At the conclusion of our worship services, we have a special and important time called the invitation. It’s an invitation for you to follow what God’s Spirit is leading you to do with your life. This may be to ask Jesus to be your Savior and forgive you of any and all sin in your life. This may be to follow Jesus in baptism. Whichever your decision, we invite you to answer His call, come forward, and share your wonderful decision with one of our pastors. It is the best decision you will ever make!
